Kyle Kitchen closed due to COVID-19, looking forward to re-opening in 2024

The Kyle Kitchen program is an innovative community partnership between Community Integration Services Society (CISS) and the City of Port Moody. Kyle Kitchen is a skill development work experience program which helps individuals build on their food preparation skills. Many individuals in the program have gone on to paid employment at a variety of jobs and businesses.

The program is designed to provide local seniors a place to socialize with other seniors in their community. The individuals working at Kyle Kitchen serve seniors an affordable lunch which consists of homemade soup, sandwiches and dessert.

Kyle Kitchen sponsors employment development, community partnerships and relationship building. Menus are created, shopping lists made, weekly shopping trips done, which include laundry services and a cleanup crew. This project provides 12 individuals with volunteer positions learning applicable life and employment skills. The program is run two days per week, on Mondays preparing the lunch and Tuesdays serving it. The duties required are: preparing soup stock, and making dessert all from scratch. While the crew is at the kitchen preparing lunch for Tuesday, a team of two is busy shopping for those weeks’ groceries. On Tuesday, the team arrives first thing in the morning to finish making the hearty soup, preparing tasty sandwiches, and adding a dessert for the “sweet tooth”.

Lunch is served at 11:30 sharp every Tuesday. The seniors line up, creating an opportunity for the individuals we support to learn how to take an order, handle money and social skills. Once lunch is finished another crew arrives to do clean up.

You can eat at Kyle Kitchen every Tuesday at 11:30 AM – TEMPORARILY CLOSED
